Ancient Egypt in Museums

Did you know you can discover objects from Ancient Egypt - including from Amarna - in museums all around the world? But how did they get there and what sort of objects can you find? Click the links to see what objects are in which museums today.

The Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo, Egypt, is opening soon near the pyramids at Giza. Explore their current information and resources.

The Petrie Museum, London, UK, has thousands of objects from Egypt in its online catalogue and also offers lots of downloadable resources for schools.

The Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, UK, has a fantastic Egyptian collection which includes many objects from Amarna. They even offer a virtual tour of their Amarna collection. Check out their learning resources too!

 

The Neues Museum, Berlin, Germany, shares the story of the bust of Queen Nefertiti.

 

The MET Museum, New York, USA, lets you explore its Egyptian collection and has a special section about Amarna’s Art and Architecture.

The Egypt Exploration Society, London, UK, has a huge image archive from historic excavations in Egypt.  It also runs a Young Explorers Club with lots of learning resources.
